Hopefully, all our parishioners—and most of our community—saw the impressive Reverence for Life display in October, on the south lawn of St. Alexander’s church, courtesy of the Council of Catholic Women, et al Each of its 53 crosses represent 1,000,000 babies aborted since they became legal in 1973. The sign was provided by Joe Frank; Michele Johnston, CCW President, updated it with current #s and with the help of her husband George, and 2 members of the Knights of Columbus: Leon Ivanouski and Chuck Klein, they put up the entire display by October 1, the beginning of Reverence for Life month.

Our 2011 annual Spring Luncheon honored our 2011 Woman of the Year, Judy Emerson
Though Judy has been a parishioner of St. Alexander’s for less than 10 years, she has been so active in so many ministries, she is well known, and most people think she has been in the parish for decades.
Judy grew up on the northwest side of Chicago and has one brother, Jack. They attended St. John Bosco grammar school, and she went on to Notre Dame High School for girls. Upon graduation, she attended Moser Business School in downtown Chicago, received her certificate, and got her first job at a bank as a secretary.
Judy has two children: Carol, who has six children and lives in Florida and Wally, who has one child and lives nearby; she also has two great grandkids. She busied herself with volunteering in the Learning Center when her children were in grade school, and was also a Room Mother for many years. Judy worked from 1982 until 2008, and is now retired.
She became a parishioner at St. A’s in 2004 and then joined the Council of Catholic Women. She was involved in the PADS program serving breakfast, with the Prayer Blanket Ministry in their early years, and became a Eucharistic Minister for the Homebound. She was on the Parish Council for one and one-half terms, serving as President for 2 years. She was also President of the CCW for one year, and is currently the CCW secretary.
In addition, she is a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, serving as an interviewer and is a member of the group that counts our weekend collections. Most recently, she joined the Bereavement Ministry as a funeral greeter. She was a participant in the Women’s CHRP 12 in 2010, and was on the formation team for this year’s CHRP 14. Judy is a Eucharistic Minister at Good Samaritan Hospital and volunteers at the Women’s Auxiliary shop (the Gingham Tree Resale Shop).
She says, “I feel blessed to be a member of St. Alexander’s family. I’ve found that no matter what committee or ministry you’re involved in, no one has to do their job alone."
St. Alexander’s is blessed by your presence and your ministries!
